Drops, bubbles, films and particles form the fundamental element of many soft matter systems and
applications. This symposium will focus on interfacial phenomena in these multiphase systems;
specifically the following three areas:
o Colloid and surface science: wetting and capillarity, surface thermodynamics, superhydrophobicity, interfacial transport phenomena, and colloidal techniques and instrumentation, such as microfluidics and biosensors.
o Bio-related soft matter: monolayers, supported lipid bilayers, model membranes, lung surfactants, bacterial adhesion, biocorrosion, and biological applications, such as drug delivery,
nanomedicine, and microbubbles.
o Molecular assembly of biomimetic systems: smart textiles and membranes, biocompatible and
biomimetic surfaces.
